Spirited performance from UAE bowlers went in vain

Defending champions Srilanka defeated minnows UAE by 14 runs and saved themselves from an unexpected upset in Asia cup 2016 match 2 on Thursday. UAE after winning the toss choose to invite islanders to have a bat first.

Srilankans after making a pretty good start with 68-0 could only manage a modest total of 129 -8,  thanks to some excellent bowling efforts from skipper Amjad Javed claiming 3-25 at  Sher-e-Bangla stadium, Mirapur.

But the chances of an upset was soon jolted when Lasith Malinga making his comeback from knee injury removed both the UAE openers in the first over after the break and Nuwan Kulasekara, who missed on recent India t20 tour also made a strong impression to help Lanka to reduce UAE to 16-4.

Indian origin lower middle order batsmen Swapnil Patil do provided some hiccups in islander camp by making 37 before becoming the third victim of Malinga, in his second spell.

UAE will now face hosts on Friday match 3 Asia cup 2016.
